The Public Relations Department has the responsibility to develop and implement communications strategies which effectively and consistently inform the country of the policies, programmes and projects of the Ministry of Justice. As such, it plays an active and supportive role in:-

• content development and the production of educational material

• writing and placing advertisements in the print and electronic media

• planning and execution of projects and special events originating from other units in the Central Ministry

• collate pertinent information for the Ministry’s website In addition to generating news articles and initiating special media interviews and interacting with the media – local, regional or international – the Public Relations Department consistently monitor the media to assess popular opinion on topical issues. Inaccuracies in news coverage are dealt with promptly.

By necessity, the department is required to assist other Agencies and Department of the Ministry in any aspect of the communication thrust when called upon. The coverage and publicising of the Hon. Minister’s public engagements, and his deliberations and views on matters of national importance, also falls under the ambit of the Public Relations Department. More recently, the Public Relations Department had the newly established Justice Education Unit (JEU) integrated into its sphere of responsibility. This unit is the Ministry’s information resource centre established to assist the public in accessing justice, as well as gain a greater awareness of the system of Justice Administration in the country.
