JUSTICE TRAINING INSTITUTE
The Justice Training Institute over the past year, has widened its offerings in response to the changing needs of the justice system and has trained some 702 persons, in Legal Administration, Sign Language, Customer Service, Computer Applications and Court Reporting and Accounting Principles. Requests for these courses came from different justice related sectors such as the Courts, Correctional Services Department, and the Police.
During the last financial year, the Institute adopted a broader approach to training by forging partnerships with other training institutions and agencies. Collaboration with HEART Trust/NTA led to financial assistance of some $6.5M, towards the Court Reporters’ training programme, for purchasing of training materials, as well as fees for lecturers. Further support from HEART Trust/NTA will come through assistance with the accreditation of the Court Reporters and the upgrading of technical competences of staff at the Institute.

At a time when the Ministry is charged with the task of providing improved service to the public through ongoing training of persons within the sector, the Justice Training Institute will continue the task of improving the programmes offered, with emphasis on quality, a core value of the Institution. For this reason the Institute is aggressively working towards accreditation in the near future. Training, however, remains a priority.
