FISCAL YEAR 2004-2005

ADMINISTRATOR-GENERAL DEPARTMENT

The Department continues to operate at a high level of efficiency, one which has earned it formal recognition from the Cabinet Office and is the benchmark for other Executive Agencies.

During the review period, the Administrator-General Department (AGD) began the roll-out of its automated Financial and Estate Management and Human Resource ad Administration systems, to achieve improved efficiency and productivity. By March 2005, the Department inputted 68% of the 2,000  beneficiary estates targeted for the year.  The AGD reported, however, that with the current 40% obsolescence rate in its information technology hardware, this could have a negative impact on the improvement level set for the 2005-2006 financial year.

The AGD currently administers close to 13,000 estates. Meanwhile, some 704 estates were successfully closed, surpassing the target by 17.3%. Other targets which were exceeded during the financial year under review included the completing of some 715 accounts, or 9%; and a 4% reduction in the average cost of administering an estate, from $80,000 to $76,750.

The Department also reported a reduction in its use of electricity, petrol and stationery by just over 11%.

The Administrator-General’s Department, in an effort to ensure that it remains relevant in the prevailing socio-economic environment, has submitted  legislative amendments which are to be sent to the Cabinet.
