Chief Executive Officer
[The Administrator-General’s Department]

Lona M. Brown was first appointed as Administrator-General on April 1, 1996. On November 1, 1998 she was named as Chief Executive Officer / Administrator-General in preparation for the Administrator-General’s Department achieving Executive Agency status.

An Attorney-at-Law with over twenty years experience at the Jamaican Bar, Mrs. Brown has had a successful career in both the public and private sectors as well as in private practice. Her previous appointments include Administration Manager and Corporate Counsel at NEM Insurance Company (Ja.) Limited, Corporate Secretary and Legal Counsel of the Planning Institute of Jamaica and Consultant to a Legal Aid Project sponsored by the Organization of American States and the Government of Barbados.

Mrs. Brown received her secondary education at Mannings High School where she was Head Girl and later graduated from the University of the West Indies with a Bachelor of Laws Degree. She obtained the Certificate in Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School. In 1989 she was awarded an Advanced Diploma in Law (Insurance Law, Air Law and Law of the Sea) also from the University of the West Indies.

A member of the Bar Association of Jamaica, Mrs. Brown is also actively engaged in community work serving as a member of the St. Andrew Settlement Management Committee and as a volunteer at the Settlement. An avid sports fan, she enjoys reading and maintaining an interest in global politics.
